Mixed Performance of Asia-Pacific Stocks

Stocks in the Asia-Pacific region experienced a mixed performance on Tuesday, September 12. While Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index fell 0.4% to 18,025.89, Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index rose 1.0% to 32,776.37. The Shanghai Composite Index declined 0.2% to 3,137.06, and Singapore’s FTSE Straits Times Index weakened 0.2% to 3,210.92. South Korea’s KOSPI Composite Index also saw a decline of 0.8% to 2,536.58, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Benchmark Index added 0.2% to reach 7,206.90.

Performance Highlights

Among the constituents of the Hang Seng Index, BYD Co Ltd witnessed the largest increase of 2.8% on Tuesday. Meanwhile, China Mengniu Dairy and Country Garden Svcs gained 2.4% and 2.3% respectively. On the other hand, PetroChina saw the largest decrease in Hong Kong, with shares weakening by 4.9%. Orient Overseas Intl and Hansoh Pharmaceutical also experienced declines of 3.5% and 2.9% respectively.

Within the Nikkei 225 Index, Alps Alpine saw the largest increase of 4.4% on Tuesday, followed by Tokyo Tatemono and Mazda Motor with gains of 4.2% and 4.0% respectively. However, IHI Corp experienced the largest decline with shares plunging 15.8%. Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi Heavy Inds also weakened with declines of 5.9% and 4.1% respectively.
