European Stocks Finish Lower

European stocks ended the trading day with losses on Tuesday. The Stoxx Europe 600 index fell by 0.19% to reach 477.26.

Declines in Major Indices

Several major European indices also recorded declines. The French CAC 40 index dropped by 0.32% to 7,426.62, the German DAX declined by 0.17% to 16,688.36, and the FTSE 100 index dropped by 0.13% to 7,683.96.

Biggest Losers

Among the constituents of the Stoxx Europe 600 index, health care/life sciences company Grifols S.A. experienced the largest drop on Tuesday. Its shares plummeted by 25.9%.

Shares of other health care/life sciences firms also weakened significantly. Orpea S.A. and MorphoSys AG saw declines of 8.8% and 8.5%, respectively.

Additionally, media/entertainment company Viaplay Group AB and business services company Hays PLC were among the top five largest decreases. Their stocks dropped by 8.1% and 7.2% respectively.

Biggest Gainers

On the positive side, Alstom S.A., a road/rail transport company, experienced the largest increase in the Stoxx Europe 600 index. Its shares rose by 5.5% on Tuesday.

Shares of Thule Group AB and health care/life sciences company Ambu A/S Series B also showed gains of 4.2% each.

Moreover, Kion Group AG, a retail/wholesale company, and industrial goods company Signify N.V. were among the top five largest increases. Their stocks rose by 3.3% and 2.7% respectively.

Currency and Commodity Update

The pound was down 0.23% against the dollar, while the euro was down 0.16%. Brent crude added 2.36% to reach $77.92.

Bond Yields

The yield on the 10-year gilt increased by 1.06 basis points to 3.782%. Similarly, the yield on the German 10-year bund increased by 5.220 basis points to 2.19%.
