“Barbie” Continues to Dominate the Box Office

LOS ANGELES — The film phenomenon “Barbie,” directed by Greta Gerwig, held its ground as the undisputed number one at the box office for the fourth consecutive week. The movie brought in an impressive $33.7 million, according to studio estimates released on Sunday.

Starring Margot Robbie, who also produced the film, “Barbie” has defied expectations by maintaining its popularity and surpassing $500 million in North America alone. Its global success is even more remarkable, as it recently crossed the $1 billion mark, setting a new record for a female director.

In the fourth week since its release, “Oppenheimer,” the second half of the “Barbenheimer” duo, secured the second spot at the box office. Directed by Christopher Nolan and distributed by Universal Pictures, the film earned $18.8 million from 3,761 locations, bringing its total domestic earnings to $264.3 million.

Although facing limited competition, Universal’s “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” opened in fifth place with a modest weekend gross of $6.5 million. Meanwhile, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” held the third position with domestic earnings of $15.6 million in its second week. The Jason Statham shark sequel, “Meg 2: The Trench,” dropped from second to fifth place with $12.7 million in its second week.
